This report summarises all of the statistics that the Scottish Housing Regulator publishes, we are able to compare our own performance with the Scottish average and our performance last year.

Cost of Living Help From the UK Government – What You Need to Know

On May 26 the UK Government announced a substantial package of help in response to the so-called “cost of living crisis.” The aim is to relieve the pressure on household budgets – particularly as a result of soaring energy bills which are expected to rise once again in the autumn.

This package of help affects EVERYONE so we have put together an easy to understand guide for Thenue tenants and factored owners to cut through the jargon. We will have more on this subject in our next Newsletter - due later this year where we will explain further all of the developments.

Meantime this is what is happening:
Every household will receive a £400 energy grant. THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REPAID. Bill payers WILL NOT NEED to contact their energy company as the grant will be automatically applied to every household bill in October. Direct debit and credit users will have the money credited to their account, while those with pre-payment meters will have the money applied to their meter...

Thenue in Biggest Ever Energy Boost

We are stepping up our efforts to help YOU tackle the increasing costs of fuel bills. The commitment comes on the same day energy regulator OFGEM is expected to lift the “energy price cap” freeing fuel providers to send bills rocketing – especially gas.
Worryingly, worst case predictions say bills could soar by 50 per cent in the spring.

Housing associations and housing co-operatives – in the true spirit of the movement – are leading the way with ways of helping tenants withstand unprecedented energy bill pressure. At our AGM last September Chief Executive Charles Turner warned of the ‘perfect storm’ approaching led by rising energy bills, changes to Universal Credit and an impending National Insurance rise expected in April.

Since 2018, we have been supporting tenants with energy advice and like so many housing providers we are ideally placed to empower tenants to understand their energy usage. Since November 2020 Julie Broadley, our Energy Advisor – a post ...

Universal Credit Changes for Working Households

Universal credit work allowance will be increasing.

By 1st of December 2021 at the latest, the work allowance under Universal Credit will increase. This change will mean that working families with children or a disability, will benefit by an increase of £45 per month, amounting to £500.00 per year.

What this revision of the work allowance means is that where the amount was set at £293.00 per month it will increase to £335.00 per month, where you have housing costs (rent). Where you do not have housing costs (rent) the amount set was £515 per month, it will increase to £557 per month.

This change only affects those UC working households that have children or a disability.

In addition to this change, also to take place no later than 1st of December 2021, the Universal Credit taper rate will reduce. The rate will drop from 63% to 58%.This means that instead of 63p in every pound of any income over the work allowance, it will be 58p in every pound instead.
